چکیده
This paper presents a time domain analysis framework for predicting nonlinear response of long-span bridges under turbulent winds. The nonlinear unsteady aerodynamic forces are modeled based on static force coefficients, flutter derivatives, admittance functions, and their spanwise correlations at varying angles of incidence. This analysis framework incorporates frequency dependent parameters of unsteady aerodynamic forces by utilizing a rational function approximation technique. A comparison with conventional linear approach is made through response analysis of a long-span suspension bridge. The effects of turbulence on the flutter instability are also addressed. r 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Nonlinear Aerodynamic Analysis of Bridges under Turbulent Winds: the New Frontier in Bridge Aerodynamics
Traditionally, the estimation of wind induced buffeting response and analysis of flutter instability have been conducted in the frequency domain utilizing linear approaches. These approaches are limited to linear structures in which nonlinearities in aerodynamic forces are ignored. In this study, a time domain analysis framework for predicting the flutter and buffeting responses of bridges unde...

Many researches have been currently conducted on the effects of fault distance on structures revealing that their seismic response can differ according to their distance from the fault. Suspension bridges due to their long period and high flexibility can be more sensitive to this phenomenon, especially in vertical vibration. Since the engineers tend to use longer spans, the length factor should...

Long-span bridges, as vital structures, play a very important role in economic development. Furthermore, the results of several earthquake-damaged bridges showed that their seismic behavior was different from that predicted under uniform excitation and in some cases the responses were more than predicted results. Therefore, the damaged bridges under non-uniform excitations were re-analyzed and ...
